get organised

ever since A's ended and i came back from vietnam, i lined up a series of activities for myself, enrolled in classes.. problem was i could not keep track cos i had so many things going on. okay, i correct myself: i was too lazy to keep track. (eh must give me credit for my honesty!) i missed a few dance lessons, a few baking lessons..

so i requested for an organiser for my birthday. and i got a really cool purple leather organiser from aiksiong, since then i wrote down everything i planned to do. which helped alot. until today. calamity stroke, almost. SHESSH. can u believe i can get my driving lesson timing WRONG???? when i wrote down everything and referred to it? my mom asked what time my driving lesson was. told her was 4plus, so she arranged for the guy doing the curtains to come down at 2pm to discuss what i was gonna do for my new bedroom window. last night i checked again. dammit. my driving was at 12 plus not at 4 plus! mom was quite pissed off with me cos everything was arranged already and could not be changed, and i was gonna delay the curtains for the rest of the house due to my failure. me, being the lazy pig i was, only asked my dad if he could fetch me to the driving centre for my driving lesson 10 mins before lesson started (it takes me 10 mins+ to get there) and cos my dad wanted to bring over some stuff to the new house, we only left house at 12.45pm, the time my lesson was supposed to start. okay here comes the thankful part (thank god!) cos i was running late, i msged my instructor to tell him i was still at home and was going to be late. and he replied "huh? ur lesson is at 4plus" then i went to check my organiser.. no leh is 12.45pm mah, written there on tuesday. tuesday --> 10th march. we are collecting results on 6th march. and i havent collected my results yet, still dreading the day, which means its not 6th march yet, implying that it cannot be 10th march. ARGHHHH. YOU RETARD!! (i was screaming at myself, not out loud of course)
i turned round sheepishly to face my dad and told him my lesson was at 4plus not 12plus. heng ah. heng i was lazy and asked my dad to fetch me at the eleventh hour. heng my dad wanted to bring stuff over to the new place and was so slow and i was almost late. heng cos i late i msged my instructor. heng my instructor replied right away and told me my lesson was at 4 plus. heng i checked my organiser again and realised my stupid mistake. so in the end i made it to the new place in time to meet the curtain man! =D =D =D

still, this proves that i can still mix up my appointments with an organiser. and by saying with an organiser, i dont mean literally just owning an organiser and not using it but writing my scheduled plans down and referring to it. sighs. +shakes head in disappointment+

but anyway, thank god again. everything went well in the end. i was saved from a round of lecturing. imagine if i was a good student and reached there before class started, dad on his way to upper thompson while i was stuck in ubi, too ashamed to call my parents to admit my mistake.. i dont even wanna think of the possibilities. haha.

oh yes! i did parallel parking today! =D =D =D

lyrical jazz

went for lyrical jazz with jane yesterday. class was at 8pm, but we were at cityhall at 6pm to practise and dance for fun- at the place near esplanade where the bboys are usually spotted? there were people rollerblading too, never noticed until yesterday. its quite odd to see people rollerblading indoors, underground.. and at the start i was feeling all self conscious cos
1. people walking by could see us dancing
2. i could not see myself nor check my lines as there were no mirrors
i cannot stress how large a part of a dancer's life mirrors are, non dancers probably will not understand. or maybe you could. just imagine u just wolfed a plate of squid ink pasta, and right away you are headed for a party where you gotta smile at everyone, yet you dont have a mirror to make sure you don't look like someone featured in an anti-smoking campaign ad.
after awhile, we got used to it, and boy was it fun! =D =D shall consider doing that more often! my only gripe is the lack of air conditioning, and the floor was a little dirty. the huge open space was extremely inviting though! somewhere u can do a few grand jetes and still not need to stop-amazing!

on a less positive note, its quite saddening that i absolute cannot survive ryan's crunches. why!! just 4 sets. i can only do 1! after weekly pilates classes!! haha! its crazy luh, slow slow i still can, but after the speed picks up its damn laokui cos when i finally muster enough strength to lift myself off the floor, everyone's down already. so i'm half a crunch late. multiply that by two and im one full crunch late.. what pathetic abs! (or rather, lack of abs) =(

class was good though, steps were easier than the wild horses piece. its feels better to have more manageable steps, so i can worry less about getting it and put more effort into dancing the choreography out and feeling the music and steps. lyrical jazz is wonderful! alot of technique overlaps with what i learnt in ballet, but ballet was really restrictive, especially RAD style. lyrical jazz, on the other hand.. its okay or even good at times to look freaking contorted. =D and hair flinging. i love hair flinging! hahaha! i rmb when i first joined vj dance (we did contemp) i had so much difficulty dancing without my hair bunned up, it throws me off balance esp since my hair is so long. but now, i love dancing with my hair down-feels damn good for the hair to be all over the place! i still cant dance with a ponytail, i find it distracting.. but i dont intend to work on that. HAHA.

ryan's choreo is amazing as well! cant wait for friday! i switched from anan's hiphop to ryan's mtv groove. not that anan isn't good, but hiphop just doesnt really suit me. the whole boyish yoyo thing.. mtv groove looked kinda like street jazz to me. lyrical JAZZ. street JAZZ. jazz is such a broad genre of dance! in the past i used to relate jazz to music all the time. the kind that puts people to sleep.. (yes yes i know im not being diplomatic, but it does have a lullaby effect on me) and when people asked about for my email address, they naturally assumed i like listening to jazz music. i shall now, for the first time, confess that i never enjoyed jazz music. i only included the word jazz cos i thought it sounded cool. HEH. sounds stupid, but i can admit now since that was a long long time ago. =D but now, JAZZ. its a beautiful word for something i love doing!

my first job!

my first job stint +drumroll+
tadah!! working at the natas fair! (travel fair at singapore expo)

the three days crept by.. really! time flies when im in school, but trust me when you're stuck with almost nothing to do, three days is an awfully long period. but hey, i'm getting paid for it so =) anyway. oh wait- i dont know how much im actually gonna be paid, until i do get my first paycheque at the end of this week. oh please please let it be good! i deserve it ok! =D

as a temporary staff i wasnt that bad! a couple approached me to book a tour to uzbekistan, and i stupidly referred them to a permanent staff, assuming temp staff cant do booking. shit. if only i knew i could, and i would earn commission. =( and another perm staff (whom i found out later was known was the SHARK) stole my other customer who wanted to book a tour to japan. still, its fine.. im a nice girl, even if im not rewarded its okay. =D

i rmb being shocked when i first arrived at expo to report for duty- i wasnt expecting the queue to be SOOO long! but when i went in, not that many ppl were at the fair. or at least, it didnt feel that way, cos i was super free and there were few customers to tend to. my job was basically to sit at a booth and respond to enquiries. it wasn't too difficult, mainly because most singaporeans are shy and kiasu. they dont like to trouble sales staff, usually either looking away or signalling that they dont need any help and they're just browsing, and they want to take every single piece of paper they see. and since AIG and some other companies were giving out free bags, they can conveniently walk down the booths, grab everything in sight and shove it into the huge totes, satisfied. then, there are those who go up to the counter and enquire "got any free gift anot HAR?", to which i hold out a free fan that my company had prepared, generously responding "yes yes sure! take take take!" the customer will then happily take it, but pause for a moment before gazing at the pile of fans on the table, asking again "can take two?" before i can respond, the customer usually adds on, explaining "i take one more for my friend lah, my friend also want one" by then, i would have been already on my way to hand out another lousy fan to the customer (who isn't, in fact, strictly a customer but a passerby since he did not buy any travel package from us) note that the fan isn't passed on to the so-called friend, but stuffed into the free bag as well, with the rest of the tour itineraries they picked up along the booth.

sighted too, are those who appear every half an hour or so. noted since morning when the fair has started, they pay $3 to get in, and go around collecting free postcards and other freebies. this category of people are worse than those stated above, because they collect many ROUNDS of freebies. they think that after half an hour, since so many people walk by, people like me wouldn't notice they were here before. but of course, me being so free, they stood out like yaoming did at the olympics. every half an hour, i see them opposite me, stopping by the malta booth, with a curious expression on their faces as if they were seeing the beautiful postcards and brochures for the first time. then they would carefully take one of each, and a few more of the nicer ones, and shove them into the free bags. (yes the huge totes again) and yes! every half an hour their memory is erased, and they marvel upon the same postcards with the same curiosity and fascination before reaching out for them.

then, there are the ones who seem (to me) to make a statement at the travel fair. I AM WELL TRAVELLED! they are usually (but not restricted to) chinese aunties in their 40s and up. an indian man came up to the counter i was at (i was at the booth for middle east and north korea) he glanced quickly at the middle east section, then slammed his right hand over 3 or 4 itineraries (mostly jordan, syria lebanon etc) and exclaimed "been here! been here! been here!" proudly, as though he was a conqueror of those lands. +rolls eyes+ i sweetly replied "what about uzbekistan?", to which he responded "uhh.. i have been thinking of going there, but.." i interrupted with "what about north korea? north korea is interesting.." he mumbled something i could not make out, then left. absolutely retarded if u ask me.

sadly, i only met shandy (who was working as well) and sufiyan (who was nearby for a bike thing and dropped by with his friend to look see look see) at work. but i made new friends!

oh yes ppl. jeju island is NOT in north korea. i repeat: jeju island is NOT in north korea.

=D love
